Suddenly, something metal crushed my ankle, giving me a deadly shock over my body. The fight was nearly stopping, due to the certainty of our victory. That’s what cowards do, and it was one of few rules that existed in our gang, to not hit the folks who are down. If the enemies are down, we never beat them up. If the cause of this fight was our arrogance, I was ready to do it again and again.įew were down on the ground, bleeding from injuries. Yes indeed, I was the invulnerable! Along with my gang, they stood no chance. My fist jammed into another stomach, knocking them down. This gang fight involvement is something that may never happen again! To overcome the conflicts and difficulties, their hope was their only ally. For the lost boys of Sudan, helps from the american natives and support from their family was not what they needed. Racism in USA put them in a very unfavourable position, but they tried their best to adapt in to the American environment. They wanted to prove that they were no different from the Americans. But Santino and Peter did not lose their hope. In this situation, I would have lost my hope in living. Their thoughts for ambition and needs were unrestricted, but as a refugee, they knew that there were boundaries they could not cross and things were limited for them. The hardest for them to cope was realization of the reality. Despite the fact that it was hard to get jobs, Peter gets a job and starts to learn the American culture through education. One of the most difficult difficulty was that american were racist about skin colours to Peter and Santino. For instance, they could not speak english at first which made them difficult to live without communicating with others. Due to this division, Peter and Santino had to endure the pain that they could not see each other again. While assimilating into the American culture, they also found that America's culture was very different to theirs.
